Objective:
The aim of the present study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Functional Status Score for the intensive care unit (FSS-ICU) into Korean.

Method:
An expert committee supervised forward and backward translation throughout the process and the final translated version. This study consisted of the: forward translation & synthesis of the initial translation (performed by two independent translators), backward translation (by two independent translators without the participation of expert committee). Two expert physiotherapists assessed patients from a medical ICU using the Koran version of FSS-ICU. To examiner inter-rater reliability, two independent physical therapists (PT) scored the same patient using the FSS-ICU at the same time and will be blinded to each other’s scores. To examine the test-retest reliability, one of two PT (from the above step) scored the same patient after >4 hours later, on the same day. Intraclass correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the inter-observer reliability.

Result:
This study will be conducted 30 ICU patients of which 4 patients completed the study. Four patients with a mean age of 59 (range: 56 - 65 ) years participated in the study. The FSS-ICU total score had a median score of 16 (range: 4 to 28) in the study. Internal consistency of the FSS-ICU was excellent (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient = 0.999 ). The intra-rater reliability was 0.991-1.000, and the inter-rater reliability was 0.942-1.000.
The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient of the total score was 0.999 (95% CI, 0.994 to 1.00), and for each of the 5 individual FSS-ICU tasks, the ICC ranged between 0.993 and 1.00.

Conclusion:
The Korean version of the FSS-ICU showed excellent internal consistency, intra-rater and inter-rater reliability in the patients admitted to a medical ICU. The adapted Korean version of the FSS-ICU was easy to understand and apply in an ICU environment.
